The signing of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) agreement between the EU and the US, which provides for duty free import of the US goods, may have a negative impact on the Turkish economy, the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, the Turkish TV channel TRT Haber reported March 31.

Erdogan made the remarks during a meeting with the US businessmen in Washington. Turkish president is in the US to attend the Nuclear Security Summit 2016.

Erdogan said that the EU and the US should take into account the interests of Turkey when signing the agreement.

Turkey has been a member of the European Union Customs Union (EUCU) since 1995, and in case if this agreement is signed, US goods will be delivered duty free to the Turkish market as well, Erdogan said, adding that this means Ankara will lose billions of dollars.
