Nobel laureate Sancar donates Nobel medal replica to İstanbul University

Aziz Sancar donated a replica of his Nobel Prize in Chemistry medal and certificate to İstanbul University, from which he graduated in 1969.

The donation was held in a ceremony at the İstanbul University Medical Faculty on Monday. Graduates and many students attended at the ceremony. Rector Professor Mahmut Ak presented Sancar a ceramics plaque portraying entrance of the university during the event.

“I will pay my duty of loyalty presenting Nobel Prize to İstanbul University,” stated Sancar saying he is proud of his university always. “I proud of that every time, everywhere, İstanbul University served greatly for Turkish health both in the Ottoman Empire and in the Republican period.” he said.

Three medals and three certificates are given to Nobel laureates. Professor Sancar gave one of these to the Turkish General Staff and will donate the second to Istanbul University. The other will be kept at the University of

North Carolina, while the original will be presented at Anıtkabir.
